Modding a Honda PA50-I Variator to a PA50-II

Mill off the side of the PA50-I drive face threads to accept the 30 mph ramp plate. DO NOT mill on the ramp plate!!! Some people have suggested to just grind the center of the 30 mph ramp plate to make it fit the 20 mph Drive Face. I think that is a bad idea. When installing the ramp plate, make sure each surface is mated flat against the others. It's the washer that usually screws things up. Many a PA50 owner has complained that they are getting poor top speed only to discover they did not get the ramp plate, thin washer and nut flush. The washer can get stuck in the threads of the drive face and not seat correctly.

You can't put a 30 mph drive face on a 20 mph crankshaft. The crankshaft end designs are different. If I remember right the 20 mph crank shaft end is stepped and the 30 mph is tapered. Additionally, the O.D. of the two sleeves is different. The drive face inner bearings are impossible to remove without destroying them. Never got past that.
This is a comparision of the two ramp plates. Notice the 30 mph ramp plate will not fit on a 20 mph drive face, but, a 20 mph will fit a 30mph drive face.
This is the 30 mph drive face with the 30 mph sleeve.
